Gestalt and the lightness of being.

So I have another entry. One of my new favorite photos is in this batch. It is my first attempt at doing Gestalt photography on purpose. I have done it many times in the past, however never on purpose. For those reading this, gestalt is basically an unfinished thing or idea. So the image is unfinished. it breaks the rules of photography by cutting off the image. It makes your mind work at finishing the photo itself instead of being force fed what I want you to see. You become an active part of the process as opposed to a passive viewer.

Also i broke the rules further by cutting off in a place where most people would growl at me and shake their fists. But I don't care. It's where I wanted the image to cut off. I find it creates a feeling of tension. at least I think so.

So without further ado... my new batch of photos.
I like it so much I did it in B&W:

This is roxy. She's keeping an eye on things here.

Monday Monday.

So it is Monday. Ah Monday. August has been hot. Like real hot. The sort of hot that creeps up on you and hits you in the back of the head with a cast-iron skillet. A sweaty, humid, sticky, nasty sort of hot.

Anyway, enough about my complaining about the heat. I am looking forward to September and October. I was out walking around a pond yesterday near my place. I got a few pics. Also, the dogs which I was sitting for at the end of last week.

Without further ado:
This is Trot. Trot is a big, friendly dog.
This is Gracie. She is a bit more skittish than Trot and takes about 5 minutes to warm up to you.
Gracie in the sun.
On the way to the pond. It was sunny and the skies opened up on us. It was the worst sunshower which was actually a thunderstorm that I had seen in years. I must stress that it was not that cloudy around us, yet the rain was intense. The sun was able to be seen just up ahead and behind and around us.
A flying needle (at least that's what we used to call them when I was a kid). 300mm, no tripod. I was a bit shaky.

So that was the pond/park. It was a cool place to hang out.

Enjoy. And as usual, thanks for stopping by.

Sundays can be fun days

So I return once again to this place to share my thoughts and photos. I have started writing a story; perhaps a novella, perhaps a novel. I am just letting it flow out and seeing where it takes me.

But, I have not been idle. I have been clicking away with the camera. All of the photos below are natural light. All are shot at with my 50mm prime lens. I hope you enjoy.

As usual, please leave any comments below.

A late return.

I apologize about not being here. It has been so long. Alas my computer was very ill with viruses. This can cripple the whole photographic process. Anyway. I'm back. My computer is better, and I have photos.
So here they are. As usual, please leave any comments below.

Well here are a few. I have a lot more to edit and place here, but I only just got the whole computer thing sorted out fully. It took a long time and I missed my ability to edit photos.

Yours,

Stephen

Peter Hurley

Well I am adding another post today. I am adding this to spread the word about quite possibly the world's best Headshot photographer. He is located in NYC, LA, and Texas. His work is incredible. Also, any photographer will benefit from 5 minutes of looking at his work, watching his youtube videos, or reading his blog.

Check him out : http://peterhurley.com/

You will be glad you did.

June 2nd, 2012. A day to think.

There is supposed to be a Thunderstorm tonight. I am really looking forward to it, to try to get some shots of lightning. I will let you know how it goes.

So these are my end of May shots. Some of these were taken on June 1st. Also there is a retro set of shots - These are my Boston street photos.
I hope you enjoy:
